Windows and Doors - OMG

For everyone who has had an older home who has had to replace windows and doors my heart now goes out to you. I am still in a state of shock over the prices I got yesterday.

Ok, the first contractor who came out quoted me on 6 windows and one fiberglass door. All the windows are triple pane glass and because of where I live it is better to keep the heat in my home in the winter then outside so I wanted maximum efficiency with having the triple pane windows. Frames are all PVC and insulated as well. I don’t really have any windows that are huge or anything, well maybe just one which hits around 7 feet long, the rest are just standard size.

Here is his quote - $12,590.00

The second guy that came out quoted on one less window but still came in around the 9k mark for a price. After thinking about what I really needed to do I settled on a new storm door instead of the fiberglass door and 5 windows hitting a total of $7500.00 smackers. Which to me is just a crazy amount of money. I need a new car and darn it I am spending that money on windows. I was hoping for the job to hit around 3500 or so but it looks like I was dreaming a lot!

This is something I need to do so I don’t really have a choice in the matter. The factory is going to take about 8 weeks to make the windows and then the project is going to take one day to do. (this is because of my back injury alone, you will see when I post the videos on this project windows are not that hard to replace)
